Understanding the VEO score
Where the number on your dashboard comes from, how the four parts are weighted, and why you sometimes deliberately get no number at all.

The VEO score is a single number from 0 to 100 summarising how findable your website is. It is made up of four measured parts:

Missing parts do not lower your score
The weights are recalculated across whichever parts were actually measured. A part that has not been measured yet does not count as a zero; it simply does not take part.
In practice:
- SEO and AEO only: the score is 60% SEO and 40% AEO.
- SEO, AEO and GEO: 45% SEO, 30% AEO, 25% GEO.
- All four: the weights in the table above.
So a score never drops just because a measurement has not run yet.
Why you sometimes see "Incomplete scan" instead of a number
SEO and AEO are the two core dimensions. Without them any overall number is misleading, because it would be built on speed and AI mentions alone while the content of your page was never assessed at all. That can produce a high score for a page we could not even read.
So the rule is: if SEO or AEO was not measured, we show no overall number but the status "Incomplete scan", with whichever parts we do have listed separately.
That happens in these cases:
- The page returned an error (404, 500, or a page that technically works but is empty).
- The page was behind a protection screen. Think of a Cloudflare interstitial saying "Just a moment…" or "Verify you are human". Technically that returns a valid page, so it looks like it worked. But what we measured is that interstitial, not your website. We deliberately do not count it.
What does not happen
We never fill a failed measurement with a zero. A 0 would read as "your page is bad", when the reality is "we could not read your page". Those are two different things and they do not deserve the same number.
For the same reason, a score you achieved earlier does not disappear when a new measurement fails. We keep showing your last valid number, with a note that the most recent attempt was incomplete.
What you can do about it
If you repeatedly see "Incomplete scan", that usually is not a content problem but a reachability one. A website behind a strict firewall or anti-bot protection can stay unreadable for us. VEO uses no proxy or simulated browser to work around that, so in that case we report it honestly rather than inventing a number.
